About the bed and breakfast
The Lancers
Royal Tunbridge Wells

The Lancers is a charming historic property that used to form the ballroom of the large Georgian period house that fronts onto London Road. Rumour has it that it was called The Lancers because this was the dance favoured by the incumbents of the time - the Colonial ladies and gents that spent most of their time 'In Aaaafrica' or perhaps lording it in India. Another rumour has it that The Lancers was actually the billiard room of the grand manse adjacent!
Our aim in opening this special and unique bed and breakfast is to provide everything we would want for ourselves in an overnight stay in a town with which we weren't well acquainted.
First and foremost is a central location, where all the charms of Tunbridge Wells are within easy walking distance (what is the point of having to negotiate the local transport system if you are only there for a short time? Why wait for a cab to turn up when you can stay within the centre of a town?).
It goes without saying we would want 'sink into the bed' comfort and cosiness with a nice, filling, healthy breakfast with loads of choice. And, of course, helpful and knowledgeable hosts who have all the time in the world to help us make the most of our stay.
We also love visiting unusual and rare locations and don't want our overnight stay to look like every other hotel room we have ever stayed in. When we go and stay somewhere, we want our accommodation to look unique, not like a replica.
We think you will have a truly unique experience here at The Lancers, in your wonderful beamed annex with its own ensuite shower and gorgeous deep windows overlooking the secret garden. While you can look out on all three sides, don't worry, no one can look in and you have complete privacy if you wish just by drawing the double curtains!
There is nothing like an old-fashioned, wrought ironed bedstead and you have one here, to clamber into. We have to warn you about the mattress - there is a serious danger you will want to buy one for yourself like this when you get home, because it is one of those gorgeous memory foam ones that you sink into like a log. But even better, it has that technology combined with breathable pockets so it never gets too warm. You just won't want to get up in the morning!
When we stay in towns and cities we aren't familiar with, we appreciate a friendly welcome in the morning. We would like to extend that warm welcome to you.
We love cooking here, it is one of our joys, and we are delighted to tailor make the breakfast you most enjoy. We can provide you with just about everything you could ever imagine (within reason!) so why not tell us your ideal breakfast when you book, so we can make sure to have all the ingredients to hand!
We look forward to warmly welcoming you to this lovely part of the Garden of Kent.
Your hosts,
Gilly and Pam
