About this delightful Tunbridge Wells B&B
We bought The Lancers from actor Tom Baker (the fourth Dr Who) and his wife Sue in the summer of 2007, when it was their family home. They were frequent guests at many of the restaurants in Tunbridge Wells, and Tom was a local at the atmospheric Hotel du Vin, which is a couple of minutes' walk down the road.
The beamed Annexe with ensuite shower, which we have turned into superb, original guest accommodation, was Tom's den. It is much the same as it was in Tom's day, with high beamed ceiling, wood panelling and paned windows on three sides. We have added an indulgent, romantic, extremely comfortable king size bed with a memory foam, air pocketed mattress (many of our guests have decided to buy one exactly the same!) and hand-pressed cotton sheets, a dressing table, a wardrobe and two comfy leather bucket seats.
The Blue Room, where the Bakers' guests stayed, also has a small ensuite shower room, memory foam mattress and hand-pressed sheets. It is located in the attic of the main house up two staircases so isn't suitable for guests with mobility problems, but it is very cosy and quiet for a town centre location, facing away from the road. It is decorated with a toile de joie quilt and white wooden furniture. Like the Annex, it has a beamed ceiling, albeit on a slightly less grand scale! There is a queen-sized double bed.
We provide tea light candles, bottled water, wine glasses, a bottle opener, home-baked cupcakes and fresh fruit as well as the usual tea and coffee-making facilities with fresh milk that you would expect, so you can enjoy a cosy, romantic evening with everything you want within easy reach! The toiletries are environmentally-friendly, coming from The Body Shop. There is a TV listings in the room and our own guide to Tunbridge Wells and its restaurants, shops and entertainment which includes a town map and ideas for days out in the area.
In the summer of 2008 we were assessed by Visit Britain and gained a Four Star quality rating with a Silver Award for Excellence. In February 2011 we were given a food hygiene rating of 5 (the highest) by the local authority's environmental health inspector. We are also proud that we are one of the most popular B&Bs in Tunbridge Wells on Tripadvisor, ranked purely on our visitors' reports.
